For the last few weeks I have been looking into earning some extra income, possibly by getting a second job, or by starting a side career as a Realtor.
This weekend I had the revelation that what I would consider my second job, would actually be a 3rd job, and would take away from my 1st job.
Confused yet???
Let me explain. My primary, number 1 and most important job is also the most fun thing in my life.... being a Dad. This "job" occurs afer 6pm, before 8.30am M-F, and all weekend.
Job number 2 is the one that earns the money, 9-6 M-F
So, if I were to take another job, I would lose a good deal of my time with the kids, who really are my bosses at my 1st job, and who would want to short change their primary job to take a 3rd time consuming occupation.
The more I thought about this, the more it depressed me. Whenever I leave a room, I hear Henry say "Dada, Dada," and it makes me realize that spending more time away from my young ones is not an acceptable solution to any money problems.
I suppose the main point of this blog is that no amount of money can be worth spending more time away from my children.

Great post. This is especially true when your kids are young. No amount of money that you may be able to bring in can buy back this time with your kids. I cut out almost all of my overtime once Sydney was born. They grow up WAY to fast!
